Elijah Watson of Chicago and Rachel Hanold of Indiana Named Kaskaskia College Athletes of the Year

The Kaskaskia College Athletic Department announced last night that Elijah Watson of Chicago and Rachel Hanold of Haubstadt, Indiana were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Sophomore Elijah Watson is a member of the KC Blue Devils basketball team.  He has a cumulative GPA of 3.46.  He was a member of the basketball team for one year and was a 1st Team All-Conference and All-Region selection as well as the 4th leading scorer in the conference and region.  He was also in the region in assists and was also named Team MVP for the 2015-16 year.  Elijah is looking to sign with a Division I school soon as there are currently eight teams recruiting him.

According to KC Coach Brian Hancock, "Elijah is a very motivated student-athlete who understands the importance of bringing a consistent effort to the classroom as well as on the playing floor. He was a very strong leader for us this season because of his character and background experiences. I think he has a bright future in front of him and I was honored on his selection as Male Athlete of the Year".

Sophomore Rachel Hanold is a member of the Blue Angels Soccer Team.  She will be graduating May 13 with a 3.84.  Rachel was All-Region 24 selection both her freshman and sophomore year.  She started every game for two years and was among the team leaders in total minutes logged. Rachel was a strong defensive player and would do anything to help the team win.  Rachel has chosen to continue her education and soccer career at NCAA Division II Oakland City University.

According to Coach Joe Basch, "I am very happy for Rachel to receive such a great honor.  She has been a successful student-athlete for two years at Kaskaskia.  She earned all-region two years here and started every game on the soccer field but also has excelled in the classroom by having 3.8 GPA and being a member of Phi Theta Kappa."
