Kaskaskia College is pleased to announce that former basketball player Mike English was recently inducted into the KC Athletic Hall of Fame.
Mike English was a member of the Blue Devils basketball team for the 2002-03 Season. He averaged 19.7 points per game; 7.8 rebounds, 4 assists, and blocked a team high 22 shots as a forward. He was named to the All-Region 24 Team, First Team All-Conference, and was an All-American nominee. He graduated with an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
After graduation, he transferred to the University of Missouri-Kansas. As a junior, he was the leading scorer averaging 12.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3 assists, and was named to the 1st Team for Newcomers. His senior year he averaged 16 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3 assists. The team finished in 2nd place and Mike was runner-up for the League MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards. He was named to the 1st Team All-Conference and All-Defense. He started 23 of 24 games and played over 30 minutes for an NCAA Division I team.
Mike played professionally in Hungary, Australia, Mexico, Czech Republic and Spain. During his first professional year, he was named Eurobasketball All-League Forward of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Import Player of the Year in 2006. He was also selected to the All-League First Team, the All-Imports Team and the All-Newcomer Squad. Mike averaged 22.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and .5 steals in his first professional season and assisted his team to advance to the tournament semi-finals. While playing professionally, Mike received numerous MVP awards. While living in Turkey, he was the Head Trainer and Skill Development Coach for a Division III professional team.
Mike resides in St. Louis and is a proud father of two children, a son Kayden and a daughter Noa. He is a police officer for University City Police Department and is the freshmen boy's basketball coach at Cardinal Ritter Prepatory High School and assistant varsity coach. He supports the community by working with people with special needs and disabilities and mentors over 30 children.
